INDOOR golf is returning to York on Monday.
City of York Council are starting a second indoor golf course at Burnholme Community Sports Hub.
The sessions are aimed at adults who are new to golf or returning to the sport after a break and who would like to work on their game in the winter months.
Cllr Sonja Crisp, cabinet member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “This five-week golf programme gives residents the opportunity to tee off the New Year with a fantastic fitness activity and discover another way to achieve just 30 minutes of physical activity a day.
“The sessions will be led by a Professional Golfers’ Association qualified professional, who will help improve golfing technique and confidence in the game.”
Heworth’s John Rawcliffe, one of the participants on the first course, said: “It’s a relaxed atmosphere with no pressure and the professional coaches the whole group and lets individuals practice at their own pace.
“He always spends some time one to one with each student. He’s good at remembering how you have progressed and what your areas to concentrate on are.
“He’s very approachable and will offer advice on most aspects of the game.”
The five-week course starts on Monday from 7pm to 8pm. The programme costs £25 for the five sessions and includes equipment hire.
Spaces are limited. To book, or to get further information, phone Nick Settle, sports participation officer at City of York Council on 01904 553377, email nick.settle@york.gov.uk or visit the website www.york.gov.uk/justsport
