UNIVERSITY 'A' secured promotion to the Time Communications York & District Table Tennis League top flight as a 7-3 victory over Clarence 'C' gave them the division two title.

A treble from Calum Goodwin was the highlight, while Simon Prins picked up two excellent wins for Clarence.

Division one champions Coneysthorpe 'A' were understrength and lost their 100 per cent record, held to a 5-5 draw by Bootham 'A'.

James Rule remained unbeaten for the champs, while Adam Ridley played well for Bootham to defeat Joel Wright and Tom Needham. A treble from Wright helped Coneysthorpe defeat Clarence 'A' 7-3 in their other match.

Filip Wojtkowiak led the way as York RI 'A' beat their 'C' team 8-2. Alfie Potter and Martin Hood contributed braces as Clarence 'B' drew with York RI 'B', Jake McCarthy unbeaten for RI.

In division three, Ryedale@RI edged closer to the second promotion slot after they thrashed South Bank 'A' 8-2 with John Freeman on top form.

They are being pushed by new club Clarence CIU, who defeated Bootham 'D' by the same margin, Jan Suchecki and Gary Bunce contributing three wins apiece.

York RI 'I' look certain to clinch the fourth division title after Mark Antrobus and Arthur Sorley were again undefeated as they thrashed University 'C' 9-1. A maximum from Paul Lodder allowed Clarence 'G' to edge Shepherds 'C' 6-4.
