The Easingwold-based 2487 Raptors secured victory in the English national rock-it-ball league in Scunthorpe.

The air cadets, who hail from Easingwold but train at RAF Linton-on-Ouse, bettered their third-placed finish of last year and earned the title of national champions after a five-way round-robin tournament.

They qualified for the round-robin finals day by storming to the title of Yorkshire and Humber champions, losing just one game in ten.

They were then victorious in Scunthorpe after beating Falkirk Cannons, Joseph Rowntree-based York Cougars, Tees Valley Panthers and the hitherto unbeaten Hell Fighters.

An eight-point margin was enough to condemn the Hell Fighters to their first defeat of the tournament and to earn the Raptors the crown of national champions.
