NEWCOMER Ruslins Jefimovs starred for York Volleyball Club as they toppled RAF Harriers 3-1 in National League division two north.
Jefimovs, a Latvian player from Goole, was York’s most valuable player as they won their second home fixture of the season at the University of York.
York were playing catch-up throughout the opening set and survived set point at 24-22, but the hosts snatched a 27-25 win.
The RAF showed their fighting qualities to hit back from 17-11 down to level at 22-22 in the second set, but York captain Pascal Charles served out the last two points to take the set 25-23.
The third set went the way of the visitors, 25-20, but York turned a commanding 12-3 lead into a 25-18 triumph in the fourth.
York host Super 8 outfit Team Northumbria in round two of the National Cup today, while their next league match is away to leaders Cheshire West & Chester VC on Sunday, November 21.
