A BOGEY brace tumbled York-born Simon Dyson out of the Abu Dhabi Championship for a bothersome finish to his European Tour start, writes Tony Kelly.

Back in action for the first time in almost two months, competitive rust still clung to the world number 65 as he missed out on making the half-way cut of the $2.5 million event in the Middle East.

Already two-over from the first round, Dyson needed to make a quick impact in yesterday’s second round. Hopes were high with a birdie on the par-five second only for that inroad to be lost on the next hole.

Dyson recovered to get a shot back on the seventh, but a second bogey on the 11th wiped out that progress and after giving himself another chance to squeeze into the last two rounds with a two on the par-three 15th, the 33-year-old dropped shots on the final two holes for a one-over 73.

Inside the cut though was Harrogate Golf Club’s John Parry.

The 22-year-old posted a one-over 73 to follow on from his 70 of the first round to make the cut by one shot.

Meanwhile, Danny Willett, the South Yorkshire-based player trained at The Oaks GC by head pro Graham Walker, was in joint 25th place going into the weekend rounds after he followed his superb 67 with a two-over 74.

Germany’s Martin Kaymer led the field by three shots on a 12-under 132 after he carded a 65 to add to his opening 75.
