VOLLEYBALL England are bringing their Go Spike campaign to York with free weekly outdoor taster sessions throughout the summer.

The volleyball sessions will be held every Thursday evening from 6.30pm at Millennium Bridge and every Friday evening from 7pm at Huntington School, organised by York Volleyball Club.

Mike Turner, chair of Yorkshire Volleyball and a member of York Volleyball Club, said: “This is an exciting year for us and we are working closely with City of York Council on various new initiatives to get local people healthier and more active.

“We want to bring volleyball to as many people in York and the surrounding area as possible.

“Regular Go Spike taster sessions and club open days will take place throughout the summer.

“We’re supporting York’s Just 30 event in September, which is aimed at encouraging everyone to do 30 minutes more active leisure and exercise a day, and we’ll also be promoting York Volleyball Club to the over-50s in October.”

Lisa Wainwright, chief executive of Volleyball England, added: “The Go Spike campaign is focused on driving up adult participation in volleyball and building a legacy for volleyball and sport in general.

“Volleyball provides an opportunity to involve more people in healthy lifestyle and create a sporting habit for life.”

Volleyball, beach volleyball and sitting volleyball, the Paralympic version of the game, will all feature at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
