NORTH Yorkshire diver Oliver Dingley has failed to make the Olympics.

Team GB have two places for the men’s springboard event in London and, despite winning a silver medal at the recent Olympic trials, Dingley was not selected.

Dingley, 19 became the youngest British men’s springboard champion at the age of 15 and has gone on to gain two further national senior titles. A place at London 2012 was a realistic prospect until January when he suffered a serious abdominal injury that left him almost unable to walk.

He was advised by doctors not to dive for eight weeks and made a slow recovery – rebuilding his strength and eventually gaining his form in time for the Olympic trials in Sheffield.

Dingley said: “I was pleased to gain the silver medal and demonstrate my potential.

“Finding out from the media that the selection had been made without my inclusion was a cruel way to learn my Olympic hopes for 2012 had come to an end.”
