SANDBURN Hall Golf Club head professional Steve Robinson is plotting a world-dazzling mission.

Robinson has led the England women’s team into the Women’s World Cup, which is being staged in Turkey this week.

And the national coach is confident that if the three-strong team of Charley Hull, Emily Taylor and Georgina Hall perform to the best of their ability then they will prove a competitive trio against the world’s best.

Since the Great Britain line-up was broken up into the four nations teams, England have failed to shine on the world stage. Robinson recalled that the best performance was seventh last year in Australia.

But while he heads one of the youngest England teams, all three are winners.

The 16-year-old Hull has competed in the Curtis Cup and qualified last week for the Ricoh British Open; Taylor is the reigning Irish stroke-play champion and the English girls’ under-18s stroke-play title-holder; while Hall holds the British girls’ crown.

Said Robinson: “It is a young team, but it’s one that has a very good chance of competing if they all work hard.

“I cannot say whether I am confident, over-confident or under-confident about our chances because you can never control whether you win or lose in a tournament like this.

“But all three girls are winners. They have all passed the winning post and that can be the key difference.”

He added: “That was the actual key to their selection. Besides being talented they have done it at a decent level in the game.

“You don’t want somebody coming down the final stretch not having been in that position before.

“If these girls are in that position then of course they will be nervous, but they won’t be any more nervous than they previously have been in events that they have gone on to win.

“They know what to do and how it feels.”

The World Cup format comprises four rounds with the best two scores out of the three going on to count.

So far this season Robinson, one of the leading 20 coaches in the country, has overseen team success.

His boys’ team have just won the English County Championship, their seventh title triumph under Robinson’s stewardship, while earlier this year the Yorkshire Ladies were also crowned national champions.
