CITY of York Hockey Club under-18 girls are through to the quarter-finals of England Hockey’s National Cup after a battling 3-2 win over Doncaster.
Rocked by a Doncaster goal after only three minutes, some good approach work by Molly Willerton and Frankie Marsh set up Danni Halley for York’s equaliser.
Doncaster slipped in a second from a short corner after 26 minutes, but the defence of Izzy Taylor, Sophie Kettlewell and Zoe Pinder kept them at bay when York were a player short in the last five minutes of the first half.
Early in the second half, Emily Carman popped up to score the equaliser and York then began to dominate.
On the 50-minute mark, York’s pressure told when Halley’s second goal gave them a deserved 3-2 lead.
In-form ’keeper Ellie Fletcher made a couple of key saves late on to help wrap up the victory.
