HARRY SOUTER was the toast of Tadcaster Swim Squad when he bagged a bronze medal at the Yorkshire Long Course Championships in Leeds.
The 11-year-old from Barwick-in-Elmet knocked six seconds off his personal best time to finish third in the 200 metres backstroke.
The medal was the club’s first at these championships for several years.
The Tadcaster squad at the gala also included Appleton Roebuck’s Kiri Armstrong, aged 15; 12- year-old Rachael McHenery, of Tockwith, and Tadcaster-based Tom Carswell, also 12.
A club spokesman said: “All swimmers did very well and achieved several personal best times.”
Next stop for the squad is the Yorkshire Championships for 50m races at Ponds Forge in Sheffield on March 16.
The club have 16 qualifiers for the sprint events.
They also have 16 teams in the relay events on March 17.
