CITY of York Hockey Club’s under-14 girls finished a remarkable season unbeaten and as double champions of Yorkshire, writes Will Jackson.
The team were crowned Yorkshire Youth League champions after beating Doncaster 9-0, Wakefield 3-1 and Ben Rhydding 1-0 on the final day of the season to complete an unbeaten campaign in a league of 27 teams.
They also won the Yorkshire finals of the U14 England Hockey Board Cup and will go on to represent the county in the Girls North of England Hockey finals on April 6. They beat Thirsk 7-1 in the regional cup final.
York players have also had several representative call ups.
Lauren Ellwood, Lucy Lawrence, Ella Deighton, Lucy Lovisetto, Georgia Rothwell, Josifien Heijbrook and Olivia Emmott were named in the North Yorkshire U14 and U15 squads.
Ellwood and Lawrence were then selected for the U15 Leeds Pumas regional squad, where York captain Ellwood dominated as she scored 13 goals in ten games.
Ellwood’s impressive performances have seen her invited to attend an U15 high performance assessment camp run by England Hockey.
