FIVE medals were garnered by York City Baths Club at the Yorkshire 50 metre Sprints and Team Galas finale at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
A dozen York swimmers reached finals with Katarina Bonner leading the way with four final appearances, winning a bronze medal. There were silver medals for Paris Grenier, Annie Johnston and George Hogg, while Annie Johnston also bagged a bronze.
Our other finalists were Kimberley Thompson, Beth Gibbons, Megan Kirkman, Genna Suddes, Carrie Suddes, Freya Beck, Ellen Suddes, Sam Russell and Tom Watkins-Hargan.
York’s team relay medals came from the 15 and 16 year old girls Freya Beck, Annie Johnston, Ellen Suddes and Sophie Brown.
They won bronze for their medley swim and were fifth in the freestyle, before adding a superb silver medal in the women’s open medley.
Bonner joined Beck, Johnston and Brown in the women’s open freestyle to win another bronze.
In a hectic weekend, Bonner joined up with 13 and 14 year old team-mates Lucy Nicholson, Carrie Suddes, Genna Suddes and Nicole Grenie to finish fourth in the medley and sixth in the freestyle.
Other teams to make it to finals were the men’s open, with Matthew Winnell, James Wilby, Simon Duston and Alistair Mitchell reaching the medley and freestyle finals, the 13 and 14 year old boys, Sam Whittaker, George Hogg, Sam Russell and Jack Pears-Dorland getting into the medley final, and the 15 and 16 year old boys, Alex Riches, Conor Hargreaves, Alex Scadding and Alistair Mitchell matching that in their freestyle event.

Meanwhile, a group of 12 Team Jorvik swimmers came away with 51 personal best times and 33 speeding tickets or medals from 62 swims at Scarborough’s Kingfishers SC annual ‘B’/’C’ grade meet.
Gala debutants Amy and Faye Clark came away with a full set of PBs, four medals and a speeding ticket between them.
Supporting them were Sam Enticknap, Lacey Small, Patrick Neary-Lamond, Freyr Smithson, Imogen Wood, Natasha and Gabby Sanderson, and Caitlin and Jamie Parsons, Antonia Bunyan, Georgia Kemp and Joseph Senior.
