THE York Junior Triathlon will be staged for the first time at the York Sports Village on June 1.
Young athletes between the ages of eight and 18 will have the opportunity to compete in a triathlon at the Heslington venue.
The swim will be in a heated indoor pool, while the bike section takes place on a purpose-built cycling track and the run will be mainly on grass.
Distances will range from a 50 metre swim, 1,000 metre bike and 600 metre run for the youngest age group, up to 400m swim, 8,000m bike and 3,000m run for the older children. The event is being organised by the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Committee and it is hoped it will become a regular fixture in the triathlon calendar.
