HIGH-FLYING York Railway Institute Under-13s are blazing a trail at the top of the City of York Girls’ Football League.
The youngsters moved three points clear of rivals Brayton Belles with a 14-0 win over Bishopthorpe White Rose Purple, their seventh win of the campaign.
The in-form team have also been boosted by a new kit sponsored by Tadcaster Road fish and chip shop The Blue Fin.
The sponsorship was organised by York RI sports supplier Simon Brooker, the managing director of Activ8 Sporting Solutions in Leeds.
The Blue Fin asked Brooker to find a York team he could help out Coaches Peter Swann and Andy Dunlop said: “It is greatly appreciated by the players, parents and the club, because without people and businesses like The Blue Fin grassroots football would not be able to progress and give the children the chance to develop skills and also interact with others.
“The girls are currently top of their division in the City of York Girls’ Football League. They are playing great football and showing good team work on and off the field.
“Most importantly, they are enjoying themselves and they are a pleasure to coach.”
The U13s need a goalkeeper to join their team.
Anyone interested would be given training by the club’s qualified goalkeeping coaches.
