MALTON & Norton Under-17s RUFC kept their Yorkshire Colts League division four east title hopes alive with a 15-0 victory over top of the table rivals Wensleydale.
The Ryedale side, in their first outing in a new strip sponsored by Dalby Offshore, Windcare Ltd and S B Bulmer Engineering ltd, scored three second-half tries to win the match.
The first half was a tense affair, with previously unbeaten Wensleydale starting well but Malton’s defence holding firm.
Malton crossed the whitewash on three occasions, but failed to ground the ball correctly.
After the break, Malt upped their game and a real team effort saw them completely dominate.
The first score arrived courtesy of a clever box kick which put the full-back under pressure. A careless pass was intercepted by Caleb Barrett and he sprinted under the posts.
James Wood added the extras and shortly after increased the lead to ten points following another Wensleydale indiscretion.
Further Malton pressure led to a ruck just short of the line. Quick ball was passed to fly-half Wood, who spotted a gap in the tiring defence to dance through for a deserved second try.
Malton are now three points behind Wensleydale with a game in hand.
