Malton & Norton RUFC held a successful event to relaunch their under-13 and U15 teams.
Girls’ rugby co-ordinator Ian Hepworth said: “We were blown away by the turnout.
“We’ve had coaches in some of the local secondary schools delivering taster sessions so we knew there was a demand for girls rugby.
“We were hoping for around 20 to 30 girls to attend, but in the end we had 47 girls who enjoyed an hour long fun rugby session.”
Parents were given a short presentation by Peter Taylor, the RFU womens’ rugby development officer for the region, on how the new teams will fit into the local and regional structure.
Hepworth said: “There is a real buzz about the teams.
“I am getting emails from clubs all over the place offering fixtures. The launch went far better than we were expecting.”
The girls train at Malton & Norton’s Gannock base on Wednesdays between 6pm and 7pm.
The teams are open to girls in school Years 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.
