CROSS-COUNTRY purposes were brilliantly achieved by the year seven starlets from Joseph Rowntree School.
The New Earswick-based school's 11-year-olds were in scintillating form with boy Jo-Ro boys' and girls' teams winning the York cross-country championships.
Leading the wonderful one-two was Sam Gough, who came home first in the boys' event and heading Jo-Ro pupils Joe Short, who was fourth, Guy Calpin 13th and Max Rigby 18th.
On the girls' front, Jo-Ro had nine finishers with the leading five all qualifying to represent the York & District team.
First home in the Jo-Ro girls' pack was Kayleigh Wells, who finished fifth, followed by Issy Mountain in seventh place, Meg Blewitt ninth, Annabel Whitmore 15th, Jamie Searson 19th, Georgina Tindale 26th, Jessica Flannery 47th, Hannah Duck 79th and Penny Smith 105th.
