UNBEATEN Terrington Hall under-13 rounders team conjured a home win at the school’s nine-team tournament.
In the group stages, Terrington beat Scarborough College 15½-2½, Easingwold 21½-4, Mowden Hall ‘B’ 8½-4 and Queen Mary’s 13-9½, before a convincing 13-5 semi-final victory against Mowden Hall ‘A’.
Terrington then triumphed 11½-9½ in the final against Cundall Manor, who had secured a 10½-8 victory over Queen Mary’s in the last four.
The victory owed much to the partnership between backstop Georgina Webb and first post Coco Charters, plus some excellent fielding from Christabel Storey in the deep.
Jess Shelley, U13 rounders coach and head of girls’ games, said: “I couldn’t have been prouder of the team.
“They played safe when they needed to, conserving their half rounders, and took some excellent full rounders when the opportunities arose. However, it was the excellent ground fielding that stood us apart from the other sides. This was quick, accurate and decisive and included an impressive tally of ten catches for captain Georgina Prest.”
The competing schools were Cundall Manor, Easingwold School, Mowden Hall, Read School, Ryedale, Queen Margaret’s, Queen Mary’s, Scarborough College and Terrington.
