TWO primary schools booked their places in the final of the York East School Sports Schools stage of this year’s Drax Cup, the biggest cricket competition for under-9s in the country.
Robert Wilkinson Primary Academy finished top in a three-way series of pool games for the Huntington schools’ cluster with wins over Stockton-on-the-Forest (193-127) and Yearsley Grove (162-137).
Headlands overcame Ralph Butterfield 145-110 for the Joseph Rowntree cluster.
The partnership winner will be decided at Dunnington on June 4, when teams from Lakeside, Clifton-with-Rawcliffe, Dunnington, Hempland, Tang Hall and Badger Hill compete in other cluster rounds ahead of the finals.
More than 550 schools across Yorkshire and Teesside are registered for the 2015 Drax Cup.
Teams play in a series of events to produce four area winners from the North, South, East and West.
The Drax Cup Finals will be played at Headingley on Friday, July 10 prior to Yorkshire Vikings’ game against Durham Jets in the NatWest T20 Blast.
The Drax Cup is sponsored by Drax and organised by Yorkshire in conjunction with the Yorkshire Cricket Board, the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and the Yorkshire Schools’ Cricket Association.
