York City Baths Club swimmers bagged 12 medals and 19 other top ten finishes in the second gala of the Yorkshire County Long Course Championship series in Leeds.

A team of 20 swimmers, aged between nine and 14, challenged the best of the rest for county honours.

Sam Russell, nine, won gold medals in the 200 metres backstroke and 200m breaststroke.

Carrie Suddes, ten, was a gold medal winner in the 200m breaststroke, as was Anna Ward, 13, in the 200m butterfly. Ward also won silver in the 100m butterfly.

Lucy Nicholson, nine, won a silver in the 200m individual medley, Freya Beck, 11, was in the 200m freestyle, 12-year-old Annie Johnston won silver in the 200m breaststroke and two bronze, in the 100m breaststroke and 100m butterfly.

Megan Russell, 13, took bronze in the 100m and 200m butterfly.

National qualifying times were achieved by Johnston and Beck.

Over the first two galas, North East regional qualifying times were achieved by Nicholson, Bethany Marshall, Carrie Suddes, Katarina Bonner, Molly Peterson, Olivia Garnett, Alastair Browne, Matthew Dearlove, Alistair Mitchell, Drew Langan and Joe Brennan.

Chloe Buck completed a successful championship, winning six golds over the two galas, registering personal best times in each event.

Meanwhile, speeding tickets and medals galore were the seaside booty for York City Baths Club at a Scarborough Kingfishers gala.

The York club sent a team of 13 to the event and they all produced top performances.

Tom Herrington won the 12 to 14-year-old boys’ skins event and won gold medals in the 100m IM and 50m freestyle.

Alex Perry took gold in the 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, silver in the 100m IM and 50m freestyle and bronze in the 50m breaststroke.

Ross Peterson won gold in the 50m backstroke. His sister, Molly claimed gold in the 50m breaststroke.

Olivia Whitehouse won gold in 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke, while Ella Deighton won gold in the 100m IM and silver in the 50m butterfly.

Hannah Baker was runner-up in the girls’ nine to 11-year-old skins event and also came home with silver medals in the 50m free and 50m butterfly, and bronze in the 100m IM.

Alistair Cooper got silver in 50m freestyle, while sister Eleanor took bronze in the 100m IM.

Charlotte Anson scooped bronze in 50m backstroke, while Lily Clint was awarded bronze in the 50m backstroke.
