BOLTON Percy opened their York & District Junior Cricket Association Under-11s League campaign with a win.
Traditionally slow starters, Percy toppled Bishopthorpe in their opening game in Zone ‘A’ of the Burn & Company Solicitors-sponsored league.
Andrew Shepherd (12) and Fraser Strachan (11) – plus some generosity by their hosts – allowed them to post 261.
Duncan Robertson (1-6) and Dom Knowles (1-6) were both economical as Bishopthorpe made 236, with Tim Brown hitting 13 and Matthew Sharples 11. Chris Lyndon-Belt took 2-7.
Newcomers Tadcaster Magnets started with a home win against Hemingbrough. Hemingbrough made 243, with Jack Burton getting 15 and Jack Barker ten.
Sam Easthall (2-8) was the pick of the Hemingbrough bowlers as Magnets made 254.
In Zone ‘B’, Sheriff Hutton Bridge beat Ovington ‘B’.
Tom Pycock top-scored with 20, Archie Stephenson hit 18 and Oliver Green made 17 in their 336. Then James Kay took 2-6, Angus Barrick 2-3, Joe Simpson 2-10, Dan Cass 2-1 and Joe Twigge 3-4 as Ovington made 179.
Osbaldwick made 266 at home to Dunnington ‘B’ and then won by six runs as the visitors closed on 260. Osbaldwick’s leading run scorers were James Hattee (10), Ben Richardson (12) and Jay Snowden (10).
Josh Fensome was the game’s most economical bowler with 1-0 in two overs, while Alex Wilson top-scored for Dunnington on 13.
Osbaldwick then beat Acomb ‘B’, making 318 and restricting their hosts to 211. Snowden took 2-14 for Osbaldwick, while Richardson made 16 runs and Harry Sheppeard hit 12.
Sheriff Hutton Bridge made it two wins from two with a 16-run success over visitors Heworth ‘A’.
Dan Cass and Angus Barrick took two wickets apiece for Sheriff Hutton to restrict Heworth to 226, while Heworth’s Fergus McAughtrie took 3-7 and Dan Davidson 2-7 as Bridge made 242.
Dunnington ‘A’ (239) won at home to Woodhouse Grange (191) in Zone ‘C’. Ellie Chipps took 2-11.
Yapham went down to visitors Heworth ‘B’. Steven Hutchinson and Dan Stones both hit ten in Yapham’s 230, while Ryan Whitley (2-8), Charlie Cooper (2-10) and Tommy Pearson (2-13) starred with the ball as Heworth made 261. Ryan Whitley also held three catches. Heworth’s Callum Mooney took 4-3, while batsmen Matthew Anderson made 16 and Edward Rymer 11.
In the Hirepoint U13s League Zone ‘A’, Bishopthorpe beat Bolton Percy, making 115-2 and then restricting Percy to 41-7.
Giles Anderson made 31 not out and his brother, Tom, was 30 not out. Matthew Orr was the only player in double figures for Bolton Percy, with Bishopthorpe’s Andrew Seager taking 2-0 and Dan Richardson bagging 2-2.
Selby ‘A’ made 107-1 against Cawood, who mustered 58-5.
In Zone ‘B’, Sheriff Hutton Bridge totalled 131-1 and that was too much for Ovington ‘A’, who fell 96 runs short on 35-6.
Hosts Clifton Alliance and Malton & Old Malton played out a thrilling tie, with Alliance making 65-4 and Malton 65-5.
Londesborough Park (98-3) got the better of Dunnington (77-4) in Zone ‘C’.
Selby ‘B’ made 104-1 and then toppled Osbaldwick ‘B’ for 24.
Stamford Bridge (41-7) lost to Woodhouse Grange (45-2).
In the preliminary round of the Hirepoint U13 Cup, Thixendale (97) dumped out Yapham (28).
