SNOWBOARDING ace Rowan Coultas is being given the chance to prove he’s made of the white stuff.

The York 12-year-old’s burgeoning talent has earned him the backing of SNO!zone Castleford and the indoor snow slope’s sponsorship means he can train on real snow throughout the year.

Coultas, pictured, of Fulford, started snowboarding only a year ago and showed potential in his first competition.

A stunning debut at the British Snow Tour Mini Brits 2009 saw him scoop a hat-trick of top places in the Boarder Cross, Slopestyle and Big Air events.

The youngster continues to make an impression in the sport, claiming first place in various youth slopestyle events at competitions including The Brits and the British Snow Tour.

Rowan’s father, Nik, said: “Thanks to SNO!zone’s support, Rowan has the fantastic opportunity to train on real snow all year round, allowing him to pursue his passion for snowboarding and develop his talent, which has shone through in many competitions over the past year.

“I’m sure he’ll spend much more time on the slope with his new sponsorship.”

Brendan McKenna, co-ordinator of the sponsored riders programme at SNO!zone, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Rowan to the team – he’s a hugely talented young skier. We believe that Rowan has what it takes to become a top level snowboarder.”
