HOT-SHOT Seb Murgatroyd was the goalscoring star as City of York Hockey Club’s Under-16s boys’ and girls’ teams enjoyed a successful tour of Devon and Dorset, writes Joe Hook.
The tour began with two matches against the Isca Hockey Club at Exeter University, with the boys winning 4-1 and the girls losing 1-0 – the only defeat of the trip.
Goals from skipper Myles Rawlings and Jordan Nelson, as well as two from Murgatroyd, saw the boys get off to a winning start.
Next up was a visit to Dorset for matches against Yeovil & Sherborne Hockey Club.
The girls won 4-3, with two of the goals bagged by Fiona Bolland. The City of York boys made it a club double as an excellent display earned a 7-1 win, the highlight being a brace for Murgatroyd.
Then, at Ashburton, the girls secured a 2-2 draw against Ashmoor HC, before the boys’ match saw a 2-0 win for York.
The final games of the tour were against Marjons HC in Plymouth, and the girls won 6-1 thanks to four goals from Zara Gower. The boys continued their excellent form with a 10-1 victory, with two goals from Harry Dixon and Jack Purrington, as well as a hat-trick from Murgatroyd.
