Malton School’s Ryan Gaughan won the year 7 boys’ race and Alistair Mitchell and Tom Everitt finished first and second respectively in year 8 in the region’s first biathlon meeting of the year at Ryedale Leisure Centre and recreation ground.
Schoolmate Lucy Mitchell also excelled, finishing third in the year 7 girls’ section in the event organised by Yorkshire Modern Pentathlon Association of Great Britain and the Ryedale and Whitby School Sport Partnership.
It involved an 800-metre run followed by a 50-metre swim. Students from years 7 to 10 from Lady Lumley’s, Malton, Norton and Ryedale schools took part.
For Lady Lumley’s, Pickering, Cameron Spittal (year 10), Corey Taylor (year 9), Bronwen Owen (year 8), and Louise Scupham (year 7) all won their categories.
In the team events, Lady Lumley’s won the year 7 to 8 girls and year 9 to 10 boys’ categories, and were second in the year 7 to 8 boys’ event.
