CITY of York Athletics Club can boast 15 medal winners from this year’s Ingrams League after the four-event competition came to a close, writes Jamie Crane.

Athletes gained points for top three finishes and overall league winner’s trophies were presented to the athletes who gained the highest total over the summer.

Gold, silver and bronze prizes were awarded at each age group, which were then separated by gender.

The disability girls section was contested by City of York duo Jess and Lucy Mcpherson, with Jess taking the glory.

Joe Hadfield beat Graeme Hartley to the disability boys title by 39 points, with City of York Athletics being represented by both athletes.

Spenborough’s Rachel Crorken took the under-9 and U11 girls’ gold, finishing ahead of Wetherby’s Stella Cross and York’s Lucy Hadaway.

York again won gold in the form of Alex Botterill competing in the U9 and U11 boys category. Mathew Crorken, of Spenborough, came a close second, a mere three points behind the York star, and Holmfirth’s Arron Gill took bronze.

Kingston upon Hull’s sole medal came from Charlotte Paterson’s triumph in the girls’ U13s, who finished comfortably clear of Bingley Harriers’ Rebekah Tiler and Ella Eadon, of York.

York pair James Fowler and Thomas Wood took silver and bronze respectively in the U13 boys, finishing behind Aaron Kettlewell of Huddersfield.

The girls’ U15s was dominated by Leeds City, with Hannah Ukandu and Nicola Sawyer completing a one-two for the West Yorkshire team.

Scarborough’s Leah Millard took bronze.

The corresponding boys’ category saw Ash Hart and Adam Robinson do York proud, with Hart taking gold ahead of his team-mate.

James Finnie of Leeds City and Ilkley’s Harry Maslan were tied for third place, but finished a fair way off Robinson’s silver total.

The under 17 girls’ trophy was by far the most fiercely contested of all the categories, with just three points separating the top three. Bethany England from Barnsley and Danielle Anderson of Wakefield both scored 68 points to share silver, but were pipped by Leeds City’s India Wilson who took the title with 71.

Pickering’s Daniel Rose triumphed in the under 17s boys age group, with Leeds City’s Connor Morley and Liam Braithwaite making up the top three.

The senior ladies contest was an all York affair, with trio Maria Williams, Jenny Houlden and Jackie Housten taking the gold, silver and bronze respectively for the club. Jamie Garbutt from York finished second behind Northern Vets’ Andy England in the senior men category, with George Shuttleworth of Lincoln Wellington coming third.
