A HAUL of 21 medals earned York City Baths Club sixth place at the ASA North East Region Long Course BAGCAT Championships at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
A squad of 14 swimmers aged between ten and 14 represented the city against youngsters from clubs across the region.
York won ten gold medals, seven silver and four bronze, while swimmers from the Minster city also notched a further 12 top ten finishes.
Top performer was ten-year-old Sam Russell.
In his eight swims, Russell collected seven gold medals and one silver to win the BAGCAT award for best ten-year-old boy at the championships.
Also in championship-winning form was 12-year-old Freya Beck, who gained three gold medals and silvers.
A second place in the 12-year-old girls’ BAGCAT ranking was a testament to a string of fine performances.
Lucy Nicholson, 11, won silver medals in the 100 metres butterfly and 200m freestyle events and a bronze in the 200m backstroke.
Nicholson and Beck gained further qualifying times for entry into the National Championships next month – Nicholson now has four national times to her credit.
Carrie Suddes, 12, took bronze medals in the 100m and 200m breaststroke, while 13-year-old Annie Johnston won silver in the 200m breaststroke and 200m individual medley.
Ellen Suddes, 13, claimed a bronze in the 100m breaststroke and 11-year-old Katarina Bonner swam well to be placed in five events, setting some impressive personal bests.
Drew Langan, 14, was fourth in the 200m breaststroke with a huge PB.
In the overall BAGCAT placings, Nicholson was seventh in 11-year-old girls category and Annie Johnston was fifth place in the 13-year-old section.
Meanwhile, Genna Suddes, Molly Peterson, Olivia Garnett, Conor Hargreaves, Jonathon White and Caolan Smart all achieved the standard to compete at the Regional Championships.
