JUNIORS at Poppleton Tennis Club have served up a memorable season with every age group enjoying success.
There have been triumphs for every category, ranging from the under-8s in mini tennis all the way to the U18s as coach Belinda Turnbull helps to hone the next generation of Andy Murrays.
Edie Jones, acting chairperson of the club, is delighted with the way the youngsters at the club are progressing.
She said: “We so often hear about of the troubles with youngsters today but this is a really great story of how sport can help to ensure young people have success from their own efforts.
“It goes without saying the coach Belinda Turnbull has had a great influence on them all and also the support of the parents who help out with transport and encouragement has been key.”
Team ‘A’ and team ‘C’ in the U8s age range finished first in their leagues, while Team ‘B’ came second in division one, only headed by Team ‘A’.
In the U10s, there was more success with Team ‘A’ topping division one, while at the U12s level there were league wins for the boys’ and girls’ teams respectively.
The U16 girls claimed first place while for the boys it was a case of finishing second.
There were further successes in the York & District league where the U14 boys won and, in the U18s, both the boys and the girls tasted victory.
To top it all off the U18 boys overcame Leeds David Lloyd 7-6 in the final of the Yorkshire League division one to claim first place across the whole county.
