YORK tennis player Sean Evans has won his second junior title this year, with victory in the under-18 boys’ singles at the Doncaster 2012 Junior Open.

In this, his first year at U18 level, Evans, who plays for Fulford Tennis Club and trains at David Lloyd York, beat nationally-ranked players to win the title.

Seeded fourth, he knocked out number one seed Tom Dyakowski from Oxfordshire in the semi-final 7-6, 6-1, before beating number three seed Matthew Boyle, of Lancashire, 6-3, 6-4 in the final.

The tournament was the York ace’s second U18 regional tour victory this year, following his success in winning the Hull Easter Open.

The 17-year-old Evans is currently ranked number one by the LTA in Yorkshire at U18 level and he competed in the Yorkshire team which came second in the U18 County Cup held at Bath University.

His skill, speed and strength was also to the fore in the revived City of York municipal tournament at Rowntree Park last weekend.

Up against adult players, Evans narrowly lost in the men’s singles final 6-3 2-6 6-4 to Phil Langley. He was also beaten in the mixed doubles final, while reaching the men’s doubles semi-final.
