KARATE kid Mikey Fentiman is celebrating after becoming the youngest Karate Union of Great Britain (KUGB) black belt in Yorkshire – at the age of eight.
The Acomb ace is believed to be the third youngest to achieve the ranking out of the KUGB’s 7,000 black belts.
The York Elite Shotokan Karate Club member, who is a pupil at Westfield Primary School in Acomb, gained his 1st Dan at Kendal and is now looking to move on to the next level.
His father, Gary, said: “I am absolutely chuffed to bits for him. I got my black belt a couple of years ago and now he’s got his.
“He has always had a lot of energy and we were looking for something for him to do. I took him down to the club, he really enjoyed it and he carried it on from there.
“He’s got another two years and then he can go for his 2nd Dan. He’s only small but he really likes to take on the bigger opponents. There is no fear at all.”
