Yorkshire seamer Iain Wardlaw is in line to win his first international cap after being chosen in the Scotland squad for their tour to UAE, where they will play a series of matches against Afghanistan later this month.
The Dewsbury-born 27-year-old, who qualifies for Scotland through his father, has impressed during a number of training camps this year and could become the latest Yorkshire player to become an international following recent England call-ups for York’s Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root.
Scotland, who lie second in the World Cricket League and hope to claim one of the two places that will earn qualification for the 2015 World Cup, will play two T20 fixtues, two World Cricket League matches and a four-day Intercontinental Cup tie all against Afghanistan.
Said Wardlaw. “Even though Scotland are currently in second spot, we cannot afford to slip up and Afghanistan could be one of those teams that could embarrass you.”
Should he impress, Wardlaw would be in line for selection for two more high-profile matches when Scotland will take on Pakistan and Australia having played only 19 matches for Yorkshire.
