FLYING full-back Jonny Waldron bagged four tries as York Acorn ARLC ‘A’ notched a 28-16 victory at home to Oulton Raiders ‘A’ in the Yorkshire Men’s League premier division.
The Blue and Golds stormed into a 24-0 lead at half-time and then staved off the threat of a late comeback by the visitors at Thanet Road.
Waldron crossed with only two minutes on the clock and his try was converted by centre Callum Hannigan.
Six minutes later Karl Harton crossed the whitewash and Hannigan again added the extras.
Waldron completed his hat-trick in the first period with tries on 18 and 30 minutes, with Hannigan maintaining his 100 per cent kicking record.
Raiders got on the scoresheet two minutes into the second period, but Waldron’s fourth try restored Acorn’s 24-point advantage.
Two converted tries in the final quarter made the scoreline more respectable for Oulton.
New Earswick All Blacks ended their Pennine League championship campaign on a high with a 32-22 win at King Cross Park.
A superb team performance saw the White Rose Avenue club, who finished ninth in the table, rally from 22-4 down to claim the points.
King Cross took the lead on two minutes, but All Blacks responded midway through the half when second row Reece Blake broke the line and fed half-back Liam Gargan for an unconverted try.
Two converted tries gave King Cross a 16-4 half-time and they added another score in the second half before the fightback started.
Centre Adam Kirby raced over from 30 metres and All Blacks stand-off Tom Holmes.
Three minutes later, winger Dean Smith stole the ball one-on-one and Holmes goaled. The gap was trimmed to two points when Blake powered over for his first try for the club with 14 minutes remaining.
Substitute forward Carl Barrow crossed and Holmes converted before victory was sealed when man-of-the-match Gargan intercepted and raced 40 metres to score. Holmes goaled.
Selby Warriors beat hosts Woodhouse Warriors 48-38 in division three.
