YORK Ladies put in a fine team performance to defeat Castleford Panthers Ladies 28-4 in the Women’s Rugby League Association Winter League.
York took the lead when prop forward Carly Hilton managed to get the ball out of the tackle for stand-off and player-of-the-match Katie Langan to cross, with Chelsea Moore converting.
York’s pack ran the ball well throughout, their efforts putting the team in a position to score again, second-rower Moore powering over.
Castleford narrowed the gap with an unconverted try to make it 10-4 at the break but York extended their lead early in the second half when Moore crossed for her second try, plus conversion.
The hosts furthered their advantage when Hilton powered her way over for her second touchdown, and they used the width of the pitch well for winger Ashleigh Hyde to touch down in the corner.
York sealed victory when Hyde crossed for her second try with ten minutes remaining.
York remain fourth in the table.
