YORK Acorn ARLC are still seeking their first win of the National Conference League division one season after a hard earned 28-28 draw in a see-saw thriller with Rochdale Mayfield at Thanet Road.
The visitors charged into a 12-0 lead in only four minutes, full-back Jack Sampson on hand to finish twice with Aidy Gleeson goaling.
Acorn winger Gareth Singleton seized on a loose pass to intercept and race 25 metres to score and Antony Chilton goaled.
A blockbusting Davey Burns run on ten minutes saw him carry three defenders over the line with him for a good score.
On the stroke of half-time, Mike Embleton saw a gap on the blindside and crashed over in the corner, and Chilton converted for a four-point interval lead.
From the restart, a short Mayfield kick was regathered by Sampson and he bolted over for a superb hat-trick. Gleeson's conversion put the visitors back in front.
On 46 minutes, Joe Porter raced 50 metres down the left for a try and two minutes later Porter sent Joe Budd over, with Chilton adding both conversions.
After a couple of drop outs on 66 minutes, Mayfield winger Rob Kershaw got over in the corner and then ex-Bradford Bulls man Matt Calland scored wide out on 72 minutes and Gleeson goaled.
Chilton shaved a post with a field goal attempt, while the visitors were kept out of striking range.
Porter was man of the match, well supported by Burns, Daryl North and Matthew Woods.
Heworth crashed to a 34-4 defeat at Hindley in atrocious weather in division three.
The hosts handled the tricky conditions better than Heworth, who could only manage a Dan Hunter try in the second half as they struggled to control the ball.
Hooker Josh Poulter impressed for the Villagers, as did skipper Chris Varley and under-18s product Liam Richmond.
