NEW Earswick All Blacks ARLC's championship hopes were dealt a severe blow as they lost 28-12 at Queensbury.

All Blacks had the chance to go joint-second in the Pennine League premier division but let themselves down with a lacklustre display.

Queensbury went ahead with a fifth-minute try and, although All Blacks briefly took the lead as half-back Ben Jones dummied over for Carl Pallister to convert, the hosts went clear with two converted tries in four minutes.

A fine pass from half-back Liam Gargan sent full-back Steve Perks racing over, with Pallister's goal making it 16-12, but that was to be the end of All Blacks' scoring with only 23 minutes gone.

Both sides had a player yellow-carded for fighting on 35 minutes - player-coach Alan Pallister being All Blacks' man in the sin-bin - and, as the teams returned to full strength, Queensbury extended their lead with a converted try.

All Blacks then had considerable pressure but without reward. Winger Joe Stearman appeared to score on 66 minutes but the referee ruled he had dropped the ball over the line.

From the scrum, Queensbury raced up the other end and scored themselves, although it appeared they too failed to ground the ball.

The referee nevertheless gave the try and then sent off Alan Pallister for voicing his displeasure.

All Blacks' man of the match was second-row Jo Jo Hnesh, with Perks and Stearman outstanding.

York Acorn A' went try crazy in their division three game against Hoyland Vikings and they won 72-14, but Selby Warriors' poor run continued as they lost 40-10 at Lindley Swifts.

Chris Corr was instrumental as a confident York Groves saw off Woodhouse Warriors 36-16.

Corr scored four tries as the Terriers maintained their promotion hopes in Pennine League division five.

A moment of class enabled Groves to take the lead as Corr pounced on a dropped ball deep in his own half and showed power and pace to sprint 80 metres and shrug off would-be tackles for a converted try.

Corr soon doubled his tally, causing more havoc down the right and combining with forward Rob Latham to race clear and evade the full-back.

Corr also had a part to play in Groves' third try, breaking through a tackle and giving the scoring pass to Adrian Beales.

Woodhouse reduced the deficit to 14-6, but Groves re-established control before the end of the first half as Corr completed his hat-trick with a confident finish in the corner following good pressure.

The second half was much closer with Woodhouse taking advantage of some shoddy defence to get back in the game.

Groves responded with Rob Latham crashing over but, still showing frailties in defence, they allowed Woodhouse to create a three-man overlap and score.

Any doubts which remained were banished with 20 minutes to go as Danny Buy dummied over and Corr grabbed his fourth try of the match.

Matt Withers, Latham and Paul Fowler were Groves' other standout players.
