YORK rugby league stalwart Spen Allison has received a top award.
He was named the winner of the Rugby League All Party Parliamentary Rugby League Committee merit award for his services to the sport. Allison has been involved with the grassroots game in the York area since 1958 and has been recently recognised by regional sports bodies for his work.
Currently chair of the British Amateur Rugby League Association, Allison was presented with his gong at an event attended by more than 150 people including MPs from across the political spectrum, senior figures from the national media and the broadcasting industry, representatives of Rugby League's commercial partners and members of the House of Lords.
Neil Turner, the Secretary of the Committee, said: "We are delighted to present Spen Allison with this annual merit award. It is well deserved and the All Party Committee wish to recognise his contribution over the years. We congratulate him and wish him all the best."
