IN-FORM York Acorn ARL are hitting the road as they bid for knockout success.
The reward for Saturday's 28-18 victory at Widnes St Marie's in the second round of the BARLA National Cup is a third round trip to Wigan St Patricks on Saturday, February 9.
Prior to that tie, the Blue and Golds must negotiate a Challenge Cup first round visit to Hull Wyke this Saturday.
The York side are also chasing promotion in National Conference division one in a season of great promise.
After a break of three weeks, Acorn took time to get into their stride.
However, they took the lead through Mike Embleton's try, which was goaled by Craig Fox.
St Marie's responded with an unconverted try on 20 minutes, but the visitors led 16-4 at the break after Rich Warren crossed the line and Fox touched down and then converted.
Although Widnes bagged the first try of the second half, Acorn substitute Joe Budd scored in the corner to make it 20-8.
Acorn hearts were in mouths when the hosts staged an onslaught which brought two tries in eight minutes to reduce the lead to a mere two points.
But Fox kicked a penalty to calm nerves and then Budd scored his second try of the game and Fox converted.
Acorn coach Alfie Hill said: "We were rusty to start with but we got the feel of the game and took command. They are a good side - better than fourth bottom - and they will beat good teams."
