BASEMENT side Heworth ARLC suffered a 36-0 defeat at home to Milford Marlins in National Conference division one.

The Villagers trailed 22-0 at the break after Milford tries by Paul Coates (2), Matthew Hayes and James Kennedy, plus three conversions by Ryan Oxtoby.

Coates sealed his hat-trick a minute after the break, while Kennedy and Josh Parle also touched down. Oxtoby added one more conversion.

The only positive for the Elmpark Way hosts was a blank scoresheet for the closing 33 minutes of the match.

Loose-forward Chris Varley turned in a superb 80-minute performance to win the Villagers’ man of the match award.

Scrum-half Craig Richardson, centre Jon Jewitt, prop Carl Potter and second-rower Liam Watling also performed well.

Relegated Heworth have lost all 21 of their league fixtures so far this season.
