Selby Warriors go into this weekend’s Pennine League Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy semi-final at Dodworth still on course for an historic trophy treble.

The fourth division outfit travel as underdogs, with Dodworth not out of the promotion reckoning in division two.

But they go full of confidence, needing to win only one more of their five remaining league games to win the club’s first-ever title, and having also progressed to the York & District Cup final with a 26-12 semi-final win over York Acorn ‘A’ last week.

The Warriors produced another dominant performance that day. Tries from Matthew Irving, Scott Pearson and Wayne Fennell put the hosts firmly in control at half-time.

The Selby forwards were in excellent form and laid the platform for Gavyn Lightowler, David Makin and Fennell to complete the scoring in the second half.

Loose-forward Scott Pearson was a deserved man of the match with impressive performances from John Harrison and Ian Ramskill.

Selby Warriors ‘A’ finished their debut season in Pennine League division seven style with a 56-12 victory at home to Underbank.

The Warriors scored ten tries in total, Chris O’Neill bagging a hat-trick, with Jimmy Hanson (2), Darryl Taylor (2), Scott Taylor (2) and Jason Robey also among the scorers. Nick Weaver booted eight goals from ten to cap a fine display.

New Earswick ‘A’ have a tough game at Woodhouse Warriors in the semi-final of the Pennine League Supplementary Cup, a competition they won two years ago and reached the final of last year.

Jack Sinclair and Elliot Bridges have been called into the squad as John Leach, Andrew Fletcher and Ady Robson are out injured, while Dan Fairclough faces a late test.
