RAMPANT York Lokos ARLC made a flying start to their RL Conference Yorkshire premier division campaign with a 70-4 victory over Haworth Park.
With five players making their competitive debuts and two players returning to the club after a season out, it was an impressive performance from the Lokos at their York RI base.
Prop forward Jason Harper opened the scoring on eight minutes, bursting over from close range off a short pass from Ben Jones, who added the extras.
On 12 minutes, Tom Gargan raced over for a try, which Jones goaled.
Jones then went over under the posts and added the goal for an 18-0 lead after only 16 minutes.
Centre Benjamin Dent marked his debut with a try on 24 minutes and again Jones was successful with the boot.
Within four minutes, substitute forward Wayne Foster went over and Jones goaled, before Haworth Park’s Sean Bass got a consolation try.
Five minutes before the break centre Liam Watling crossed for a 34-4 advantage.
The opening score of the second half took ten minutes to arrive, winger Gareth Howell crossing from a ball by Dent. Howell added an identical second seven minutes later.
On 67 minutes, debutant Jamie Birdsall intercepted and ran 60 metres to score under the posts. Tyler Dawson, back at the club after a season out, added the goal.
With ten minutes remaining, captain John Hough finished off a flowing move with a try wide out.
Hooker Gargan returned to the field to score two quick tries and complete his hat-trick. Dawson goaled both to make it 64-4.
Birdsall scored another superb try from 75 metres out with two minutes remaining. Dawson added the extras to round off the scoring.
Debutant Arran Thompson was outstanding, as was man of the match Dent.
Other debutants Joseph Renard-Smith, Lewis Sharp and the speedy Jamie Birdsall also played well.
Prop Jason Harper had a typically barnstorming game and was well supported by Dean Winspear and Mark Musgrove.
