York Lokomotive ARLC had only 16 fit players at Thorne, where three more were injured in a 46-12 loss in their second RL Conference Yorkshire division match.

In a league where teams can use 20 players, Lokos toiled.

Thorne led 10-0 before impressive Lokos centre Liam Watling broke and off-loaded to Mark Musgrove. He raced 50 metres for a try goaled by Arran Thompson.

Further pressure resulted in a Thompson penalty for a 10-8 deficit but, just as Lokos, for whom Gareth Howell shone, were in the ascendancy, there was an enforced break due to referee Dave Asquith’s ankle injury. Once the game resumed Thorne regained the impetus for a 20-8 half-time lead.

Injuries to Ben Dent (knee), John Hough (ankle) and Lewis Sharp (jaw) meant Lokos played most of the second half with the bare 13 players and Thorne took control.

Musgrove stormed on to a Wayne Foster pass for his second try in a man-of-the-match display but it was mere consolation.
