CARLY HILTON scored a hat-trick of tries and was player of the match as New Earswick Ladies picked up their first win in the National Conference Women’s East League summer season.
The York side enjoyed a 38-12 victory over Leeds Akkies Ladies at the Hearwell Stadium, home of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats.
Leeds took an early lead with an unconverted try but New Earswick responded with four tries without response.
The first was from stand-off Lou Deakin after a quick play-the-ball caught the Leeds defence unaware. Prop Kay Rollinson then powered over from close range, before centre Hilton crossed twice. Hilton converted three of the tries to give New Earswick a 22-4 lead at the break.
Hilton completed her hat-trick after the restart to extend New Earswick’s lead, and, although Leeds responded with two tries, New Earswick had the last say with two in as many minutes.
Loose-forward Bev Langan broke through from a scrum to score under the sticks, and second-rower Teri Chu ran 40 metres after a break to complete a solid victory.
Star performer Hilton was backed up by scrum-half Katie Langan, prop Hayley Fairclough and debutant winger Mary Tiplady.
