YORK Lokos toppled previously unbeaten RL Conference Yorkshire division leaders Milford Marlins 20-14.

The York side piled on the pressure in the early stages, but had a try ruled out when Ben Dent was adjudged to have knocked on while competing for a cross-field kick from stand-off Liam Watling.

On seven minutes, Marlins scored a soft try against the run of play with hooker Ryan Pinder darting over from acting half. Martin Loveridge missed the conversion.

Lokos continued to look dangerous, with Dent making several strong runs, Chris Varley finding gaps and Declan Malarkey linking well from full-back.

On 20 minutes, Varley caught out the Marlins’ defensive line with a dummy and glided through the gap. John Hough missed the conversion.

Within three minutes, Craig Harrison bagged a try for Marlins and Loveridge added the extras.

Watling scored the try of the match, off-loading to Mat Chapman before backing up to burst through the Marlins line. Hough converted to make it 10-10.

Lokos took the lead on 31 minutes when Malarkey linked well in the line for an unconverted try.

Marlins bossed the opening 20 minutes of the second period, but Lokos stood firm and, on 63 minutes, Watling and Malarkey linked up to put Karl Harton over in the corner.

On 68 minutes, Hough slotted over a penalty in front of the sticks.

The Marlins hit back with an unconverted Joe Burns try with eight minutes remaining, but Lokos managed to survive.

Varley was the Lokos man of the match on his debut, while Watling, Malarkey and Dent shone in the backs and Harper and Chapman were the pick of the forwards.
