YORK Acorn ARLC have rallied round to help their international sextet represent the country on tour.
As revealed by The Press, six Acorn aces are to go on tours with Great Britain squads this summer, with Leigh Rientoul, Timmy Elliott and coach Alfie Hill all being late call-ups to the BARLA Under-23s party that goes to Ukraine today, joining the squad’s vice-captain Tom Hill and physio Steve Thompson.
Joe Budd was also set to go to Ukraine, but was promoted late on to the Great Britain Community Lions side that is to go to South Africa.
The Acorn club, as usual, have helped to raise funds to help the six afford the trips, with Paver Shoes coming on board at late notice to help sponsor Rientoul’s involvement.
Club chairman Mick Lumby said: “We have to pass on thanks to everybody, and people like Mark Granger at Pavers Shoes, who has dug deep to help these lads get away.
“It’s great to see youngsters coming through and being noticed by the powers that be – it’s starting to be a regular occurrence, York lads going on tours.
“It’s a big compliment to the coaches who bring the lads on to get to this level, and it’s a tremendous honour for the lads and everyone connected with the club.”
