York Ladies ARLC kicked off their National Conference Women’s Play-off Plate campaign with a 28-22 victory over Coventry Bears Ladies in a thrilling encounter.

York took the lead when loose- forward Bev Langan powered through to score an unconverted try.

Coventry hit back with an unconverted try, but York responded with half-back Lou Deakin breaking the line to score, with centre Carly Hilton converting.

Coventry scored twice before the break to take a 14-10 lead, and they also added a try early in the second half.

York closed the gap after good play down the left saw winger Jodie Wilkinson power through to score and Hilton converted.

York regained the lead as Hilton ran 50 metres and she added a second try to extend the lead to ten points.

Coventry scored in the dying minutes, but York held on for victory.

Player of the match was centre Hilton, with strong performances by winger Fran Arron, subtitute prop Jade Franks and winger Wilkinson.
