YORK Acorn ARLC ace Tim Elliott helped the BARLA Great Britain Lions continue winning ways on their Australian tour with a 44-0 victory at North Beach Sea Eagles.

Elliott did not play in the opening victory over Rockingham Coastal Sharks but was in at scrum-half in a much-changed line-up for this match against the Western Australian Rugby League premier division leaders.

Handling was made difficult by a torrential pre-match downpour, but, after breaking the deadlock with 36 minutes gone, the Lions began to go clear.

Their second try was set up by Elliott, who took on the line before passing out the back to Castleford Lock Lane loose-forward Craig Jeffels, who bumped off the cover to score.

That made it 10-0 at half-time and, although there was another downpour during the interval, the second half was not a similarly low-scoring affair.

GB head coach John Fieldhouse said: “It was a superb performance to post 44 unanswered points. We had to wrestle and tough it out in the first half… but in the second half we were magnificent.

“I’ve never coached a team who have defended so well for 80 minutes. Every time they threw something else at us we hit back harder. I’m over the moon with that performance.”
