New Earswick All Blacks dropped to fifth place in the Pennine League Championship after suffering a narrow 16-14 defeat to Ackworth Jaguars.

Ackworth took an early lead with a converted try after four minutes.

All Blacks responded with full-back Ben Jones crashing over. Half-back Liam Gargan added the extras.

All Blacks took the lead on the stroke of half-time when winger Jack Law collected a well-weighted kick from Gargan to race in and notch an unconverted try, which led to New Earswick holding a 10-4 advantage at half-time.

Five minutes into the re-start Ackworth levelled in kind and then surged back to the front with a converted try.

All Blacks though refused to buckle and with 12 minutes left loose forward George Pallister was first to the ball after a grubber kick panicked the Jaguars for him to cross the whitewash.

However, the conversion could not be tagged and Ackworth hung on for victory.

The All Blacks’ man of the match was second rower Chris Spain, who was pushed for the honours by Steve Perks and centre Adam Kirby New Earswick All Blacks ‘A’ were trounced 54-0 by relegation rivals Victoria Rangers in division four.

The York side trailed only 12-0 at half-time, but folded badly in the second half.

Prop Alan Davison worked hard, but was left looking for players to off-load in the tackle, while Luke Campbell also put in a good display.

Selby Warriors suffered their third defeat of the division two campaign as they lost 32-28 at Sharlston Rovers ‘A’.

Selby Warriors ‘A’ were due to host West Craven Warriors ‘A’, but the division seven game was postponed.

There were no games in the Yorkshire Men’s League for York Acorn ‘A’ or Heworth ‘A’.
