YORK Acorn ARLFC maintained their good home form with a comfortable 38-8 National Conference League division one triumph over Castleford Panthers.

In a match they controlled from start to finish, Acorn took the lead as early as the second minute when Panthers knocked on at the kick-off and Martin Wood took full advantage to score wide out. He converted from the touch-line to land a superb goal.

A mere three minutes later winger Matthew Woods went in at the corner on the overlap and soon after he again scored wide out. Wood added the conversion for a rampant and rapid 16-0 advantage.

Panthers stuck to their guns though and centre Chris Hepworth got the visitors on the scoreboard on 23 minutes.

But normal home service was restored when the impressive Aaron Thompson crossed to finish off excellent approach work.

Acorn opened the second half strongly with Tom Hill bolting through a gap after a superb Tim Elliott pass. Joe Porter continued the good work on 56 minutes when Elliott again did the work to create a gap for him to storm over from 20 yards. Anthony Chilton goaled from in front of the posts.

Late call-up Nathan Hebblethwaite seized his opportunity well on debut and finished off a flowing move on 64 minutes to score a good try.

Panthers got a consolation on 71 minutes when Aaron Phelps dived over from close range.

But the blue and golds rounded off the scoring on 77 minutes when Wood crossed for his second try wide out.

Tim Elliott was awarded the man of the match honour for an all-action display with other good efforts from Chris Rushworth, Jordan Hyde and Damien Hilton.
