BATTLING Heworth ARLC were beaten 52-6 at title-chasing East Leeds in division two of the National Conference League.
The sides cancelled each other out in the opening 19 minutes before the hosts broke the deadlock with the first of their nine tries.
Easts led 18-0 at the break and then pulled clear in the second half, kicking all but one of their conversion attempts.
The Villagers got on the scoreboard late in the game when Tom Barron dummied his way in under the posts and he then converted to make it 46-6.
The home side had the last word with a converted try.
Heworth’s man of the match was hard-working second-row forward Chris Varley, while there were also strong displays by scrum-half Liam Ryan and second-row Karl Durkin.
In division one, promotion hopefuls York Acorn suffered only their third defeat of the campaign as they went down 38-12 at third-placed Wigan St Judes.
However, the Blue and Golds remain level at the top of the table with Bradford Dudley Hill, who lost 16-14 at Millom.
Meanwhile, York Lokomotive gained their first point of the Yorkshire Men’s League season by drawing 10-10 at home to Stanningley.
The visitors took the lead at New Lane with a try, but Lokos quickly equalised with a four-pointer from 16-year-old centre Joe Fish.
There was no addition to the score before half-time and after the break the hosts went in front when good work by stand-off Tom Storey allowed Mark Musgrave to burst through a gap for a try.
Storey then made it 10-4 with a penalty off an upright.
The heavens opened and a high kick from Stanningley was not dealt with and the bouncing ball was recovered by the visitors, who scored under the sticks.
The conversion levelled the scores.
Lokos’ man of the match was prop forward Andrew Scott.
