PROMOTION-CHASING Selby RUFC left it late to secure a bonus point as they beat hosts Skipton 32-11 in Yorkshire Two.

The Swans’ all-important fourth try came in the 11th minute of injury time to keep the second-placed club within range of leaders Doncaster Phoenix.

The visitors had a dream start when, after only 45 seconds, Skipton were penalised from the kick off for accidental offside.

Selby duly won the scrum and number eight Martin Protheroe picked up from the base, made good yards and fed flanker James Blaymire for a try converted by fly-half Josh Cruise.

Skipton fly-half Darren Howson kicked a ninth-minute penalty, but Cruise replied in kind three minutes later.

Flanker Ben Hall forced his way over for a try as the home side took the lead, but Selby hit back when a Cruise kick was gathered by winger Ben Lunt and full-back Dan Porter went in for the first of his hat-trick of tries. Cruise converted.

Selby were penalised for holding on and Howson kicked the penalty to make it 17-11 at the break.

On 47 minutes, Cruise kicked a drop goal and then converted when Porter crossed for his second try on the hour.

In the 51st minute of the half, Selby won a lineout, released Cruise and then centre Sam Weller sent Porter weaving his way to the line from 50 metres out.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire Three leaders Old Rishworthians cruised to a 52-10 victory over bottom side York RI at New Lane.

RI were hit by three well-worked converted tries in the first quarter and another just before half-time.

The home side’s only response, having missed two attempts at goal, was a penalty by Chris Morley.

Trailing 28-3 at the break, RI had a good spell in the second half when man-of-the-match Tom Greaves, who made a string of try-saving tackles at full-back, took the ball on the bounce and outpaced the covering defence to score, and added the conversion.

After that, the visiting forwards took over and scored at will.
