YORK RUFC’S impressive Yorkshire One form will be put to the test when they entertain third-placed Ilkley tomorrow.

The Clifton Parkers have only lost one match since the last week of October and are fifth in the table following their 27-13 victory at Wath-upon-Dearne last weekend.

Wath were reputed to be the best scrummagers in the league, and were 14 points ahead of head coach Sean Bass’s men at the start of play.

But their big forwards were repeatedly repelled and York scored two tries in the first half. Joe Maud grounded the ball from a driving maul and Sam Potrykus crossed the whitewash to see the visitors into the break with a 14-8 advantage.

After the break, Potrykus caught a pass on the half-way line and outpaced the chasers to score under the posts.

Pocklington travel to Keighley tomorrow in North One East.

The two teams have become keen rivals in recent seasons and were promoted together from Yorkshire One last year.

When they met at Percy Road in October it produced a tense encounter that Pocklington scraped 14-10.

Keighley are hovering just above the relegation zone, two places below ninth-placed Pocklington, and the West Yorkshire side lost heavily last week.

But they will be looking to get their recovery back on track after gaining more league points since Christmas than before it.

Malton & Norton, who fell to high-flying Cleckheaton at The Gannock last week, have a trip to Newcastle and Northern to contemplate, while Selby return to Yorkshire Two action, following their successful cup exploits, with a game at West Park Leeds.
